Our Values
Authenticity – At the heart of effective communication is the ability to be seen. We are deeply committed to creating a space where people can connect and develop solutions based on mutual respect.
Community - Success is not possible without a strong community. We examine every project through a community lens to identify potential positive or negative impacts and ways to build meaningful relationships.
Progress - We embrace progress to operate from a growth mindset that encourages continuous improvement, the removal of barriers, and the celebration of wins.
Adventure – By leaning into new experiences, taking the time to appreciate the joy in life, and leading with curiosity, we open the door to true innovation.

My Story
I founded Changing Currents after over 25 years of experience in communications, development, and community building. With a passion for writing, a persistence that makes projects happen when others would have given up, and a diverse network of collaborators, launching a specialized communications consultancy felt like a natural step. This venture allows me to blend my communication talents and community-building skills to help other businesses and organizations achieve previously unreachable results.
As an active community builder, I focus on driving equity through strategic planning, relationship building, and exceptional communication skills. I am an accomplished public speaker who can write for various platforms, including articles, fundraising appeals, speeches, and grants.
My community involvement includes serving on the Board of York City Dollars for Scholars, co-chairing the Confronting Racism Coalition, immediate past chair of YWCA York’s Racial Justice Committee, and being a founding Board Member of Keystone Innovation Collaborative. I am also a Council Member for the York County Economic Alliance’s Women’s Business Center Organization and serve on various committees for the White Rose Leadership Institute.
I help mission-driven organizations say what they mean — inside and out — so their community actually feels it. Reach out to me at nshaffer@changingcurrentscommunications.com
